Heidesand/German Shortbread Cookies

Heidesand are biscuits made from shortcrust pastry. In northern Germany, they are considered traditional Christmas cookies. The cookies are made of flour, sugar and fat in the form of butter or alternatively baked margarine. In addition, eggs, milk, vanilla sugar and baking powder can be added, partly also grated lemon zest and raw marzipan. In addition to the classic Heidesand, there are various variations, for example with ginger and oranges or with rosemary. The recipe of Heidesand originated in Lower Saxony.

Before I started my research for this years Adventskalender Special I never even heared of Heidesand before. Apparently it is considered a "very traditional Christmas treat", but I can tell you right now: It must be a northern German, maybe central German thing, 'cause I've never seen it here. x'D Honestly, it looks kinda dry. I wonder if I'd enjoy it?
Well, it's fish boi Hamburg again, yay~! IDK why, but I really like him. Drawing his grin makes me happy. (`w ´ )

Als Hamburgerin musste ich mir das hier natürlich sofort ansehen!
Total nette Idee, jeden Tag eine Stadt und eine Plätzchenspezialität in den Adventskalender zu packen. Von dem Gebäck habe ich bisher auch noch nie gehört. Sehr süß!
